Here’s how to make the Hennessy Williams Avocado Toast

The other night, Lisa Frankenstein shared before my API History Month cabaret performance that I had a cooking show and I thought, hey! it’s time to dust this blog off again. So here’s a simple recipe now that summer is here.

Here’s how I make my Hennessy Williams avocado toast of choice. If you’ve seen some of my other baking channel videos, you might know that I’m a big fan of scallions (also known as spring onions) on, well, everything. It’s a common ingredient in Chinese recipes and recently, it’s seen an emergence in TikTok recipes where it’s used to accentuate sweetness in a recipe as the natural sweetness of the spring onion pairs very nicely, like rhubarb in pie, or carrot in a cake. Add a drizzle of premium honey, and poppy seeds which I threw on my avocado toast on a whim, and you have an absolutely delicious morning snack.

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 slice whole wheat bread, toasted

  • ½ tsp poppy seeds

  • dash of sea salt
  • optional: fried egg
  • optional: cholula or hot sauce of choice

  • Cut your avocado into slices, or mash it over your toast.
  • Sprinkle sea salt over the toast, followed by the diced spring onion.

I also turned this video into a fun TikTok, if you’d like to see it here.

What do you think? Scallions + honey may not be for everyone, but keep an open mind! I’m also aware that people have different preferences for avocado toast. Many cafes in the Bay Area have their own unique twist on it. Such as Hasta Muerte, which adds cucumbers, which just begs for tajin and hot sauce!

My sister is a fan of a more savory toast, while my partner Eddie wants all things spicy!

I’d love to hear your thoughts and enjoy!
